Chapter 18

“Can we find a nice place to eat that has WiFi? I’d like to take my laptop with us, and Henrik’s program needs WiFi,” Jill said.

“Frankly, I think we should stay here and eat on our balcony – get take-away food from somewhere nice. It’s hot and humid enough that it won’t get cold. We’ve got wine. I think you need to get Marie, Jo, and Henrik on the phone as you’re not solving this case by yourself, and maybe they can think of an angle we haven’t,” Nathan said, and Angela nodded agreement.

“I know that’s not the fancy dinner you had in mind for our last night on vacation, but Nathan’s right. You, we, need help, and time is running out. I’m not sure a single Aussie cop will save our lives. Remember, we are up against a professional forensic killer. If anyone should be able to get away with murder, it’s him,” Angela said.

“Are you sure you guys don’t mind giving up our last dinner in Australia?” Jill asked.

“Yes, I’m sure as I don’t want it to be our last supper, no pun intended.”

“Okay, I’ll leave the food to you and Nathan. I’ve got to figure out the time zones here. I think it’s going to be bad,” Jill said, and after looking at the world clock on her phone, she sighed and said, “It’s three in the morning for Jo and Marie and ten in the morning for Henrik. I’m not even sure I can wake Jo up.”

“You can. I sent them an email after the snake bite this afternoon and said you might call them for help in the middle of the night when you came to the realization that you needed their help,” Angela said. “I don’t at all see a money angle here – it seems like it is solely professional jealousy as a motive, but maybe Jo has a better way to trace purchases than the cops. Marie was also going to inform Henrik.”

Jill walked over to Angela for a hug.

“I have some wonderful friends willing to make such sacrifices to solve cases. Especially cases for which we are not being paid.” After letting go of Angela she said, “Nathan, you order dinner, and I’ll call Henrik first as it’s a better time there.”

He was in a meeting when she called but indicated he would extricate himself in five minutes. She used that time to put her thoughts together on what he could help with.

Almost to the second, he called Jill back. She loved the German sense of time.

“So Marie gave me a few highlights of your case. What can I do to help?”

“What do you know about satellites?”

“You’re hoping to see your man killing somebody? That would only happen if you lucked out at the right moment. Satellites are passing overhead around the clock, but we’re not being recorded twenty-four-seven just yet. How about cell phone data? Have you tracked his movements through his cell phone?”

“I haven’t. I presume the police have tried that.
